Hey girls! I am just going to be posting a little bit about our impact area that focuses on domestic violence so we can start to spread awareness.
Here are some statistics that may surprise you:
-Around the world, at least one in every three women has been abused in their lifetime.
-Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women.
-Nearly 1 in 5 teenage girls who have been in a relationship said boyfriend threatened violence.
-Everyday in the US, more than three women are murdered by their husbands or boyfriends.
-Ninety-two percent of women listed reducing domestic violence and sexual assault as their top concern.
-Men who as children witnessed their parents’ domestic violence were twice as likely to abuse their own wives than sons of nonviolent parents.
Through these posts I also want to make known the resources that are available around campus, and the different opportunities to get more involved with the impact area. UD’s campus has a program call Sexual Offense Support, or S.O.S. This is a volunteer organization that anyone can apply to get involved in, that provides support to survivors of all forms of domestic violence.
They also have some upcoming events that you could attend if interested, and you can read all about them at the bottom of their website! Here is the link: http://www.udel.edu/studentwellness/sos/
I hope everyone is staying warm, and have a great rest of the weekend!
