Penguins “Brave the Storm” for Service Partner

On April 22, Gamma Sigma Sigma sisters drove, walked, or rode the bus to Newark High School for Relay for Life. The annual Cancer Walk in memory and support of 3.5 million cancer survivors, patients, advocates, volunteers, caregivers, and researchers world-wide began with Dr. Gordon “Gordy” Klatt who walked and ran for 24 hours around a track in Tacoma, Washington, in May 1985.

“Relay For Life is the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Relay is staffed and coordinated by volunteers in more than 5,200 communities and 27 countries. Volunteers give of their time and effort because they believe it’s time to take action against cancer.”

This year, The GSS Team raised $2,420.55. UD raised a total of $15,433.02 for one of our National Service Partners, the American Cancer Society. Our Relay for Life reps, Melissa Langer (Beta Lambda) and Nicole Panzitta (Beta Lambda) were extremely proud and thankful for all the ladies who ‘braved the storm’ to Relay!

Each year, participants can send pictures and memorials to be compiled into a Luminaria Slideshow. Due to the rain and wind, the slideshow was not shown this year at the event, but can be found by clicking the link below.

The Beta Gamma team shirt featured a ~Hawaiian~ vibe this year.
Once again, thank you to all who help to make relay a continuous success!
Remember…“Life isn’t about braving the storm, its about learning to dance in the rain.”
